I recently have been dealing with the death of my Uncle and my Grandpa, both genuises in their own right. My family lost my Uncle Robert Blaschke in January and my Grandpa Alfred Blaschke just this week. I will always look up to them for their determination, innovation, forward thinking and pioneering work. I am proud to call them family and forever they will be in my heart.

Robert Blaschke was a well known Astrologer, international lecturer, author and publisher of five books. His company Earthwalk Astrology continues with the support of his wife Carol Cilliers Blaschke.

Dr. Alfred Blaschke was the principal Aeronautical Engineer for Douglas Aircraft Company (later McDonnell Douglas) in Long Beach, CA and received a Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering from UCLA. You can read more about him on a previous blog entry.

I already appreciated his smaller than usual sizes in his mens pieces, making his button ups and blazers wearable for smaller framed men or for women who want to wear menswear (a hard to find thing in the world of American sportswear). Afghanistan born designer Osman Yousefzada, wanted to design an all white collection. With a simple pallate, one can really explore many shapes and thats what he did. He referenced the North African djellaba; the Japanese kimono; the sack shape, the trapeze, and the T-shirt. I always appreciate minimalist deconstruction of traditional fashion silhouettes.

One of my fav artists of all time. He works with light and controlling viewers perspective of light. His biggest work, the Roden Crater, has been a work in progress since the 70's and is expected to finally open in 2011. It's Located outside Flagstaff, Arizona. He is turning the natural cinder volcanic crater into a massive observatory, designed specifically for the viewing of the sky. I am already planning a trip.
